IB Chemistry Class Visits Cary Institute

The Millbrook High School International Baccalaureate (IB) Chemistry class visited Dr. Emma Rosi at the Cary Institute to learn about her research on the effects of medicines and drugs in bugs, food chains and our waterways.  Ms. Alonge-Watz, teacher and her class visited the  stream facility and took part in the set-up of her new study on micro-plastics.  This trip gave the class insights into the area of medicinal chemistry, which is an IB Chemistry unit, and helped to make a global connection into the research process on a variety of pharmaceuticals.

Pandaleon & DeMan Represent Millbrook at the 2019 New York State FCCLA Conference

Abigail DeMan and Alice Pandaleon represented Millbrook at the 2019 New York State Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Conference.   At the conference, they took part in workshops on communication and public speaking, culinary demonstrations, website building and team building. The keynote speaker, Jared Campbell provided a truly inspiring musical presentation. Abigail received a Gold Medal for her innovative recycle and redesign project transforming garbage into recyclable grocery totes. Alice continued her leadership journey by being installed as a member of the 2019-2020 NYS FCCLA Executive Council as VP of Parliamentary Procedure & Programs/Peer Education.

Both girls will represent Millbrook and New York State at the 2019 FCCLA National Conference in Anaheim, CA.

Kent Art Association Student Show

24 of our High School Art Students recently had work on display at the Kent Art Association's Gallery this past weekend. 
This year we came away with an award of Excellence going to Callie McGuire for her piece "Education of a Princess".

Millbrook High School Jazz Ensemble participates in clinic with the Catskill Jazz Factory

The Millbrook High School Jazz Ensemble participated in a master class clinic with the Catskill Jazz Factory on Wednesday April 3rd.  Guest artists Alexa Tarantino and Steven Feifike helped lead the group.  The Catskill Jazz Factory will be back on Wednesday April 24th to make an appearance during the High School Spring Arts Festival.

Hali Wack Participates in 2019 All-Eastern Treble Chorus

April 4-7, Senior Hali Wack participated in the 2019 All-Eastern Treble Chorus under the direction of Dr. Sandra Snow (Michigan State) in Pittsburgh, PA. Hali was selected based on her outstanding NYSSMA solo ratings and selection for the New York State All-State choirs in both her junior and senior years. Hali was among only 120 treble singers from the NAfME Eastern Division selected for this honor. She participated in 4 days of intense rehearsals before performing an exceptional concert of diverse music. Congratulations to Hali on this momentous accomplishment!

Girls' Basketball Team Recognized by the Millbrook Board of Education

The Millbrook Board of Education recognized the Girls' Basketball Team at their April 9, 2019 Board meeting.  Coach Adam Peek, Coach Dawn Harkenrider, and many of the team were in attendance.  The coaches and team members received certificates from the Board of Education and administration.  We are extremely proud of our Girls' Basketball Team, who are Regional Champions and participants in the New York State Final Four Tournament!

Elm Drive Students Visit Star Lab Planetarium

On Thursday, April 25th, Elm Drive students had the opportunity to visit the Star Lab Planetarium, which was set up in the Millbrook Village Hall.  Elm Drive students learned about stars and constellations with Ms. Wells, which is part of the Science curriculum.   Students also learned how astronomers locate objects in the sky through a process called celestial navigation.  It was truly an "out-of-this-world" experience for Elm Drive students!

Millbrook High School Concert Band & Jazz Ensemble take Second Place in Competition

On Saturday, April 27, 2019, the Millbrook High School Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble participated in the Music in the Parks Festival at Six Flags New England.  The Concert Band was awarded Second Place with an "Excellent" rating, and the Jazz Ensmble was awarded Second Place with  an "Excellent" rating.  Ryan Hall received an award for "Best Instrumental soloist."  Congratulations to the members of the HS Concert Band & Jazz Ensemble for a job well done!  Congratulations to Mr. Dunninger on his leadership for these two groups.
