NYS STAR

NEW YORK STATE STAR PROGRAM INFORMATION

STAR stands for School Tax Relief Program. It is a New York State program to help reduce school taxes for homeowners. STAR is New York State’s School Tax Relief Program that includes a school property tax rebate program and a partial property tax exemption from school taxes. All New Yorkers who own and live in their home (primary residence), are eligible for the exemption. Please note that the STAR Program is a state program that the District has no control over. The New York State STAR program is intended to be solely a state tax relief program, not state aid for education.

Basic STAR
Basic STAR is available for owner-occupied, primary residences, where the resident owners’ and their spouses’ income is less than $500,000. Basic STAR exempts the first $30,000 of the full value of a home from school taxes.

Enhanced STAR
Enhanced STAR provides an increased benefit for the primary residences of senior citizens (age 65 and older) with qualifying incomes. Enhanced STAR exempts the first $65,300 of the full value of a home from school taxes.

Veterans’ STAR
Veterans’ STAR is an optional program that school districts may or may not participate with. The Millbrook Central School District does support the Veterans’ STAR exemption. If you are a veteran, please file for this exemption with your town assessor.

Filing for the STAR Exemption
In order to get your STAR exemption, you must file a STAR application form with your local assessor. We have listed below the assessor information for the six (6) towns that have property located within the Millbrook Central School District. If you have questions regarding the STAR program, you can contact your town assessor’s office or by calling toll-free (1-888-697-8275) or visiting the website of the New York State Office of Real Property Services at the following link:
