Welcome to the MMS Guidance Office

School counselors are involved with counseling, coordination and consulting among administration, staff, parents, students, and the community. We support students in attaining social, academic and personal goals.  We help parents/guardians understand school requirements and act as an advocate for students. At the middle school level, counselors work with students individually and in groups to address topics such as study skills, social skills, and self-concept. Counselors also help coordinate services in conjunction with the school psychologist and Committee on Special Education for students with disabilities. We encourage parent/guardian involvement and work together with parents and students to give every child the best opportunity for success.

Helpful Information

There are a few attachments below for assistance.  The first attachment is a student made power point which  introduces the basics of 6th grade at MMS to our incoming 5th graders.

The second attachment is a list of numerous community resources for any family who needs help from an outside agency.  Please browse this list for help with emergency financial assistance, mental health issues, domestic abuse assistance, substance abuse help, eating disorders, or referral to an outside therapist.  We are very fortunate in Dutchess County to have a variety of agencies to help with our every need.

Additionally, I am attaching here a flyer for parent education classes for any parent with a child experiencing mental health issues.  The flyer announces an upcoming Saturday series beginning on October 21st, 2107.  The NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) contact infomation, however, is also included on this flyer for your future use.

Please check out the December School Counseling Newsletter to see what has been going on this past semester.  We will try to do two newsletters a year for you to learn more about what school counselors do and to see what fun events we are doing with our students.  Enjoy!

Finally, please look at the attendance brochure.  It will help you understand more about our attendance policies and help you get your children to school every day.
