Millbrook Board of Education Announce Member Opening

The Millbrook Central School District has an unexpected opening on the Board of Education.  The term of this position will be from the time of appointment until June 30, 2019.  

Interested candidates must:

      - Be and have been a resident of the District for a continuous and uninterrupted period of one year; and

      - A qualified voter of the District that is a citizen of the United States; and

      - at least 18 years of age or older; and

      - Not adjudged to be incompetent.

Student Artwork Selected to Receive Scholastic Art Awards

This year 14 students had their artwork selected to receive Scholastic Art Awards. This year we doubled the number of Gold & Silver Key winners than we had in 2018!  The Scholastic Art Awards is a visual arts competition open to students in grades 7-12 and is designed to identify students with exceptional artistic talent.  The Scholastic Art Awards is a National program that gives out National Awards and Scholarships, as well as Regional Awards.  The Gold and Silver Key winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony at SUNY New Paltz on Friday, February 8th at 7pm. Their work will be on display in the Fine Art Building Rotunda from February 8, 2019 through March 1, 2019.  We congratulate all of the winners! 

Sixth Grade students Selected for the 2019 Elementary All-County Music Festival

Students and Staff Return to Elm Drive

Students and staff returned to Elm Drive on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. Students found a stuffed teddy bear sitting on their desk as a welcome back gift from Belfor, our property restoration contractors.

The Board of Education and administration hosted an Open House at Elm Drive on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. We had a great turnout at the Open House. Millbrook Board of Education President Perry Hartswick cut a ribbon at 5:00 pm to signifying the return of students and staff to Elm Drive. The Board of Education and administration extends a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all Millbrook students, staff, parents, guardians and community for their support!

Community Invited to Elm Drive Elementary School Open House

The Millbrook Board of Education and Administration are excited about the renovations made to the Elm Drive Elementary School and extend an invitation to the Millbrook community to attend an Open House on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Elm Drive.  Community members are invited to walk through the school to view the renovations to the school.   We hope you are able to attend. 

Board of Education Recognizes the Millbrook Volleyball Team

The Board of Education and administration recognized the Millbrook Volleyball Team for their tremendous accomplishment in earning second place in the New York State Class C Volleyball Tournament.  Coach Stoliker, Coach Gehlhoff and many of the team members attended the meeting and were presented with certificates.  Millbrook Board of Education President Perry Hartswick, Coach Stoliker, Coach Gehlhoff and Volleyball team members are featured in the photo.  Our congratulations go out to the Millbrook Volleyball team for this great accomplishment!

MHS Art students participate in SPCA fundraiser

MHS art students from Mrs. Cring's Sculpture and Advanced art classes teamed up with High School students from Rhinebeck and Red Hook to bring awareness and raise money for the Dutchess County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Students made animal themed ceramic pieces that were sold at the DCSPCA in Hyde Park starting Saturday, November 17th. 

Millbrook Volleyball Team Places Second in New York State Finals

The Millbrook Volleyball Team competed in the NYSPHSAA Girls' Volleyball Championships on November 17th and 18th in Glens Falls.  The girls' participated in the New York State Class C Finals against Portville.  The Millbrook Volleyball team placed second in the State Tournament.  Junior Erin Fox and Senior Samantha McKenna, pictured, were named to the New York State Volleyball Class C All-Tournament Team.  Please join us in congratulating these exceptional student-athletes and their coaches for their great accomplishment!  We are very proud of our coaches and team members!

Hali Wack To Participate in the All-Eastern Honors Treble Chorus

Millbrook High School Senior Hali Wack has been selected to participate in the All-Eastern Honors Treble Chorus, April 4-7, 2019, in Pittsburgh, PA.

Hali will spend three days rehearsing with a conductor during the Eastern Division Conference of the National Association for Music Education.  Hali is one of only 120 vocalists selected for the treble chorus from the 12 representative states and district, which includes:  Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.  This honor comes following her selection as a participant in the New York State School Music Association's All-State Choirs last year and this December.

The 2019 NAFME All-Eastern Honors Ensembles will perform for an audience of thousands on Sunday, April 7, 2019, in the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh, PA.

Millbrook Athletic Hall of Fame

On Friday, November 16, 2018, the Millbrook Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held.  The Millbrook Athletic Hall of Fame committee recognized Athletic Director Bill Blayney for his years of service to the student-athletes of the District and welcomed new Athletic Director Al Hammell.

MHS RACES to SAVE CHEETAHS!

The MHS Art and Environmental Club members, working with Paola Bari from the Cheetah Conservation Fund, met an Ambassador Cheetah from the Columbus Zoo.  We also learned about the holistic conservation efforts of the CCF.  Paper bead bracelets and note cards were made and sold to raise money for cheetah conservation efforts.  Photo Credit: Mrs. Cring.

Millbrook Volleyball Team Participates in New York State Tournament

The 2018 Millbrook Volleyball Team leaves today, Thursday, November 15, 2018 to head to Glens Falls, New York to compete in the New York State High School Athletic Association (NYSHSAA) Girls' Volleyball Championships on November 17 & 18, 2018.  We are very proud of Coach Stoliker and our Girls' Volleyball team for a great season and wish them well in the NYS Tournament. 

2018 Millbrook Volleyball Team Wins Section IX Class C Sectional Championship

The 2018 Millbrook Volleyball Team won the Section IX Class C Sectional Championship.  The team will play in the Regional Semi-final game  on November 8, 2018, in Corning.  If they win, they will play Saturday, November 10, 2018, at John Jay-Cross River in Katonah for the Regional Playoff Championship.    We congratulate Coach Stoliker and his team on their tremendous accomplishments and wish them well as they continue their season.

MHS Art students visit the Guggenheim and Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum

On October 23rd, MHS art students went to the Guggenheim and Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York City. Mrs. Cring's IB Visual Arts and Advanced Art students were accompanied by Mrs. Barnes' IB Film students for the trip.

Deputy Freer read aloud Police Officers on Patrol and Fly Guy Presents Police Officers to Mrs. Rizzo’s first grade class. The students had many questions which Deputy Freer was happy to answer. Deputy Freer has 20 new first grade friends who love to say hello to him in the hallway!

Environmental Club Receives Certificate of Appreciation

On Friday, October 12, 2018, Mike Herzog, Wappinger Creek Watershed Intermunicipal Council Chair and Sean Carroll, Cornell Cooperative Community Environmental Educator & Local IT, presented the Millbrook High School Environmental Club with a Certificate of Appreciation for the Trees for Trib Project.

Deputy Michael Freer began his assignment as Millbrook’s SRO on Monday, October 1, 2018.  Deputy Freer has worked with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office for 17 years since 2001.  He began his career as a Deputy Sheriff assigned to patrol the southern portion of Dutchess County.  In 2013 he was assigned as an SRO for the Arlington High School.  In 2016 he returned as a Deputy Sheriff on patrol.  We are

Millbrook Educational Foundation (MEF) Supports Elm Drive Teachers

Chris Rosenbergen, Millbrook Educational Foundation Chair and Kari Capowski, Millbrook Educational Foundation member visited all Elm Drive classrooms today, September 19, 2018, to distribute $200 gift cards to Elm Drive teachers to provide them with additional funds to purchase classroom supplies and materials during their temporary relocation to the Millbrook Middle School. Karen Ferguson, Elm Drive Principal and Phil D’Angelo, Superintendent of Schools, joined Mr. Rosenbergen and Mrs. Capowski to thank our Elm Drive students and staff for their flexibility and understanding.

The following communication was received from the New York State Essential Elements: Schools-to-Watch Program:

The visitation team was very impressed with the quality of the programs and practices at Millbrook, and the persistent efforts of the administration and staff to develop a culture of continuous improvement, a school climate that does well in addressing the social-emotional and academic needs of your students, and maintains an organizational structure that defines it as a middle school.”

  • Recognizes schools that are exemplars for the implementation of the State Education Department’s Essential Elements of Standards-Focused Middle-Level Schools and Programs.
  • Is grounded in research and the wisdom of practice and reflects what is best for the young adolescent learner, both academically and personally.
  • Recognizes schools with middle-level grades that have implemented an exemplary middle-level program that addresses both the academic and personal development needs of young adolescents.
  • Requires successful completion of a rigorous and comprehensive application process including an intensive on-site evaluation by their peers.
  • Is hosted by the New York State Middle School Association.
  • Wishes to support the efforts of the SED to improve and strengthen education in the middle-level grade.

Some additional information

  • There are 1251 Middle Schools in New York State.
  • Currently there are 30 Middle Schools in New York State designated as “Schools-to-Watch.”
  • We will be evaluated in December to see if our designation will be elevated to a School-To-Watch.
