MILLBROOK FOOTBALL TEAM LEAVES PRACTICE ON 9/11 TO JOIN IN ON REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY AT UNION VALE FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Millbrook High School Varsity Football Team took some time out from their game preparations for Friday's contest with Valhalla HS this Tuesday to show their support in remembrance of 9/11.
At 6:00pm Tuesday, in the middle of on field game preparations, a bus pulled into the high school parking lot and practice was halted by Head Coach Sean Keenan. Players were asked to get on the bus, in full practice gear and pads to take a ride with the coaching staff. The players had no idea where they were heading until the bus pulled into the Union Vale Fire Department District 67 ceremony.
Before exiting the bus Coach Keenan let the team know where there were going, what they would be doing, and why there were doing it. "The coaching staff  thought this would be a GREAT opportunity to teach the players about the history surrounding 9/11 and also about our football program. And it was. We've had 10 former football players join the military after graduating form Millbrook. We feel patriotism and pride are 2 of the core values we base our football program on. We couldn't be prouder of our alumni in the military and the way the players behaved at the ceremony." said Coach Keenan after the ceremony. The players also reflected positively on the experience. Seniors Ryan Cantilli and Michael Triglia said that attending the ceremony gave them a much different perspective on 9/11 and the importance of recognizing the significance of the anniversary. "Like most of the players, I have really only experienced things about 9/11 on TV or the internet. Being there at that ceremony and hearing from people who were directly involved in 9/11 really hit home for a lot of our guys." said Cantilli. "We were really glad to go there and show our support. All of players felt the same way" added Triglia. The team returned to the high school and finished their practice, still in full practice gear and pads.
Our community is proud of the entire football team and coaching staff for taking the time out for such a cause. Their efforts reflect true Blazer Pride!
The team kicks off this Friday at 7:00pm at Valhalla HS for an away non-league contest; then the team travels to Spackenkill HS on Saturday 9/22 for their first division game of the year, a 1:30pm kickoff; the Blazers then return home for 3 straight Friday night home games: 9/28 vs. Ellenville; 10/5 vs.Onteora (Homecoming); and 10/12 vs Chester Academy.
All kickoffs for the home games are at 7:00pm under the lights on the Blazers home turf. Come out and show your Blazer Pride.
