Millbrook Middle School Designated as a Rising School-to-Watch

The following communication was received from the New York State Essential Elements: Schools-to-Watch Program:

“I am very pleased to inform you and your staff that the site visitation team has recommended, and the Leadership Team has approved, the Millbrook Middle School being designated as a Rising School-to-Watch. The visitation team was very impressed with the quality of the programs and practices at Millbrook, and the persistent efforts of the administration and staff to develop a culture of continuous improvement, a school climate that does well in addressing the social-emotional and academic needs of your students, and maintains an organizational structure that defines it as a middle school.”

The Essential Elements: Schools-to-Watch (EE: STW) Program

  • Recognizes schools that are exemplars for the implementation of the State Education Department’s Essential Elements of Standards-Focused Middle-Level Schools and Programs.
  • Is grounded in research and the wisdom of practice and reflects what is best for the young adolescent learner, both academically and personally.
  • Recognizes schools with middle-level grades that have implemented an exemplary middle-level program that addresses both the academic and personal development needs of young adolescents.
  • Requires successful completion of a rigorous and comprehensive application process including an intensive on-site evaluation by their peers.
  • Is hosted by the New York State Middle School Association.
  • Wishes to support the efforts of the SED to improve and strengthen education in the middle-level grade.

Some additional information

  • There are 1251 Middle Schools in New York State.
  • Currently there are 30 Middle Schools in New York State designated as “Schools-to-Watch.”
  • We will be evaluated in December to see if our designation will be elevated to a School-To-Watch.
