Alden Place Students Learn About 3D Printing

Alden students tour the Hudson Valley Advanced Manufacturing Center at SUNY New Paltz to learn about 3D printing and attend a workshop at the Center for Innovation in Education to use software to encrypt items with Braille.

 

International Baccalaureate Students Apply Science Inquiry Approach in Real World Setting

IB Biology and IB Chemistry students followed the steps of scientific inquiry in a real world setting. Groups posed a research question and collected data at the Cary Institute. Their data analysis and conclusions as well as the connection to the international dimension will be presented in poster format. A special thank you to Michelle Forester at IES and our senior intern Carina Jimenez!

National Honor Society Students Hike For a Local Charity

The Millbrook National Honor Society hiked for hunger at James Baird State Park.  They raised over $700 for the Dutchess County food bank!
A BBQ followed hosted by their advisers; Mrs. Herring and Mrs Petta.  Congratulations on a wonderful community service event.

Valedictorian & Salutatorian Recognized

The first Dutchess County Honor Student Recognition Breakfast was held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.  The event celebrated academic excellent of honor students from all high schools in Dutchess County.  Representing Millbrook from the Class of 2018 were:  Aaron Greene, Valedictorian and Isabella Rosenzweig.  Also in attendance were Aaron’s parents - Jim Greene & Ruth Greene, and Isabella’s mother - Cynthia Rosenzweig.

Feigelson wins First Place in MHAL Tournament

On Thursday, May 17, 2018, Dan Feigelson competed in the third day of the MHAL Section IX Tennis Tournament held at Bard College.  We are happy to inform you that Dan captured First Place and brought home the Gold Medal.  Dan had a phenomenal season record of 12 wins and 1 loss.  We all extend our congratulations to Dan on his fantastic accomplishment and wish him well as he move on to Sectionals.

Parade Rescheduled for Sunday, May 20th at 4:00 PM

The parade originally scheduled on Saturday, May 19th, to honor our New York State Champion Girls’ Basketball team has been moved to Sunday, May 20th at 4:00 pm due to the weather forecast.  The parade will run from the Bank of Millbrook to the Band Shell.  We invite any students who would like to walk in the parade, and help carry banners, to arrive at the Bank of Millbrook at 3:30 pm.  We hope the weather cooperates.  Thank you.

Millbrook's Annual K-12 Merritt Bookstore Art Show

Congratulations Millbrook Tribute Garden Merit Scholarship Winners!

Congratulations to two of our senior students, David Haetty and Madeline Lacey. They are the successful winners of the Millbrook Tribute Garden Merit Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to senior students who display a balance between scholastic ability, a well-rounded personality and potential leadership qualities.

Board of Education Members Receive New York State School Boards Association Awards

The New York State School Boards Association's School Board U Recognition Program is designed to recognize extensive time and effort for School Board Members who strive to continually expand their governance knowledge and skills.  There are four levels of awards, based on developmental sessions attended by board members.  Level 1-Board Achievement Award; Level 2-Board Excellence Award; Level 3- Board Mastery Award; and Level 4-Board Lifetime Achievement Award.

Millbrook High School Musicians Receive Awards

The Millbrook High School Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble & Concert Choir participated in the Music In The Parks Festival on May 5, 2018 at Six Flags. The Millbrook High School Concert Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Alexis Bresnahan, received a well-deserved Second Place trophy!

2018 NAMM Best Community for Music Education

 The Millbrook Central School District has again been named a Best Community for Music Education.  583 School District in the United States received this distinction this year.  The award program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, student and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education.

Designations are made to Districts and schools that demonstate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.  This Millbrook Central School District first received this designation in 2014 and has received it every year since.  Congratulations to our Music Department and student-musician for a job well done!

Millbrook Girls' Basketball Team Honored at Banquet

The New York State Girls' Basketball Class C Champions, the Millbrook Lady Blazers, were honored at a banquet held on Friday, May 4, 2018.  The coaches and team are pictured at the banquet in front of their championship banner which will be hung in the Millbrook High School Gymnasium.

IBM Engineers Visit High School Science Classes

IBM Engineers, Mrs. Lacey, Mr. Hall, Mr. Reale and Mr. Dux, visited science classes today. Students were challenged to maximize hang time for skiers on a ski slope, by maximizing the cost of materials. The importance of STEAM skills, communication and teamwork were emphasized in the engineering process.

Seniors Recognized at 2018 Spring Arts Festival

The 2018 Spring Arts Festival was held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. The Festival highlighted the High School Fine Arts program. Art work was displayed in the High School Cafeteria. A concert was held featuring the following High School musical groups: the Concert Choir, the Madrigal Choir, the Jazz Ensemble & Concert Band. Senior student-musicians were recognized and given a rose. Senior student-musicians are featured in the photo. It was a wonderful event.

Annual Spring Arts Festival

The Millbrook Art & Music Department invites you to our annual Spring Arts Festival, Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the High School Cafeteria/Auditorium. 

NYS Girls’ Basketball Class C Champions Recognized at Board Meeting

The Board of Education recognized the New York State Class C Champions, the Millbrook Girls’ Varsity Basketball team, at their April 23, 2018 meeting. Since the Senior members of the team were on the Senior Trip and other team members were unable to attend due to conflicts with sporting events, parents accepted the award certificates for them. Pictured are coaches, team members and parents.

Second Grade Trip to Sharon Audubon

On Thursday, April 5th the Second Grade Classes from Elm Drive attended an educational outdoor field trip at the Sharon Audubon.

Mrs. Doyle, Mr. Hammell, and Mrs. Jordan all chaperoned the trip. The trip focused on the process and history of Springtime Maple Sugaring. Students participated in 3 stations while on the trip.

First, students were treated to a fireside Native American tale of Chief Woksis and his wife Moqwah detailing the historical facts surrounding the discovery and early methods of maple sugaring. This included the early Native American use of hot rocks in a wooden Mokuk to boil the "Sinzibuckwuda" as the Algonquian's referred to maple syrup in their tongue. Students also learned about the use of the Colonial Time's "Lazy Man's Balance" to prepare maple syrup over the campfire.

Congratulations RYLA Candidates

Congratulations to Jackie Stickter, Halie Every and Rachel Greene who have been selected as the successful candidates for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference, held in June. The RYLA conference is open to all current sophomore students who demonstrate leadership involvement in school, community and their home.

There will be a Blood Drive on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in the Millbrook High School Gynmasium from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

The Addams Family - A Great Show!

March 23, 24, & 25, 2018, the Millbrook Community had the opportunity to attend the Millbrook High School Production of the "Addams Family." The show was a great success! The directors, cast, crew and musicians did a great job. Director Chelsea Edson submitted the photos of the cast & crew. Great job for all involved in the production!

Millbrook Middle School Students Make a Difference in the Lives of Students in Burma!

This school year, Millbrook Middle School ELA 8 students have had the wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of poverty stricken students in Chin State, Burma. This winter they recorded videos reading children’s books to one another, and more recently, wrote letters to middle level students in Kaleymeyo, Burma.

Students receive Silver Awards at the NYS Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Conference

Abigail DeMan & Alice Pandaleon received Silver Awards at the New York State FCCLA State Conference. They earned the ability to compete in the FCCLA National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia this year.  Congratulations to both for a job well done!

Millbrook Varsity Cheerleading Squad Wins Second Place in International Competition!

March 24 & 25, 2018, the Millbrook Varsity Cheerleading Squad competed in an International Competition in Walt Disney World. We are very excited to congratulate them in bringing home the 2nd Place trophy from the competition! They are a very talented and enthusiastic group and the award is well deserved!

2017-2018 School Calendar Changes

18 High School Art Students Had Artwork Displayed at Kent Art Association's Student Show

This year Millbrook received two Awards of Excellence for pieces entered, Congratulations to Jenna Coy for her sculpture "Mysterious Dream" and Mariana Cabrera for her series entitled "Flores."  You can see a gallery of images from the show Here and a slideshow on our Art department page on the district website.
